Fire-Rescue Psychologist
Serving All Fire-Rescue Personnel Throughout Broward County
Dr. Royce Jalazo is President of Dynamic Behavioral Consulting and a licensed psychologist who specializes in working with fire-rescue personnel. She rides along with firerescue personnel on a regular basis while they serve the community.
She is one of only two psychologists in all of Broward County who have been cleared and approved to provide psychological services to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO)’s 5,800 employees, including more than 2,800 certified deputies and more than 600 fire rescue professionals and their dependents.
Dr. Jalazo is aware that firefighting and emergency medical response remain the most dangerous occupations in the United States. The individual’s long hours, shift work, sporadic high intensity work, strong emotional involvement, and exposure to human suffering places the job among the most stressful occupations in the world. High levels of stress, intense physical demands, and long term exposure to chemicals and infectious disease contribute to heart disease, lung disease, and cancer – the three leading causes of death and occupational disease disability.
When fire-rescue personnel attend psychotherapy sessions with Dr. Jalazo, she considers the physical, intellectual, and psychological demands of the their occupations and how these factors may play a role in the occupational and personal issues that have brought that person to seek her assistance.
